Three technologies that could improve businesses in 2019

As technology continues to develop and become a bigger part of everyday life, it’s more important than ever for businesses of all sizes to keep up with the latest trends. Here are three technologies that could have a positive impact on the way businesses work in 2019.

5G

The next generation of mobile networks could have incredibly wide-reaching implications for businesses across all sectors. The headlines are greatly improved download speeds – up to 100 times faster, by some estimates – and reduced latency, but whilst being able to download a full HD film in a matter of seconds is exciting enough, it’s not just consumers who’ll benefit. O2 forecast that innovations like smart bins could save councils almost £3bn per year, and 5G could well usher in a new age of autonomy by greatly improving the capabilities of drones and self-driving cars. Though a full UK rollout isn’t expected until 2020, providers have long been conducting trials and suggest that the technology could arrive later this year.

Immersive technology

Global research firm Gartner predict that, by 2022, 70% of enterprises will be experimenting with immersive technologies such as virtual reality. Though VR is still fairly early in development, the technology has a number of potentially great applications such as virtual personal assistants to help keep you organised, and it’s not inconceivable that colleagues on opposite sides of the world could soon be working together (virtually) side by side.

Machine learning

Though it sounds ominous, machine learning could make day-to-day business life much simpler, particularly where data and analytics are concerned. For instance, it could greatly simplify the marketing process by recognising how customers engage with content and tailoring it accordingly. Chatbots could also be used to handle simple customer service queries, with machine learning algorithms helping them to begin to handle more complex questions.

If it’s printing technology that your business is looking to harness, then look no further than XBM.
